The Warning Zone Blog

January 2012

Warning Zone would like to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year.

We finished the year off with a grand total of 2080 pupils who attended the Warning Zone from our opening on 20th September until the schools finished for Christmas in December 2011. We held our Volunteers Social event in December which gave our volunteers the opportunity to bring friends and family to look around. We had a brilliant turnout and some good feedback from the visitors, with some expressing interest in volunteering with us in the future.

Apart from a section of roof blowing off in the high winds last week, we started the New Year fairly quietly as the schools did not start back until Monday this week. Luckily the damage to the roof was minimal and has now been repaired ready for our first school visit of 2012 which is on Thursday this week.

We did have one visitor last week which was a year 6 pupil who has previously visited the centre with his school. He turned up with two of his mates, who hadn't been to Warning Zone, and asked if it would be possible to show them around - I think that could be classed as positive feedback!

Further visits this month include the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood who will be visiting with Burton on the Wolds school. And we also have some members of Leicestershire Constabulary meeting here this week for a tour of the Zones.

Our next fundraising event is a Gala Casino Evening hosted by the High Sheriff of Rutland, Mr Peter Lawson and the High Sheriff of Leicester, Mr Resham Sandhu. This is taking place at Oakham School during February Half Term.
