WARNING ZONE VOLUNTEER - 100 not out
2009-03-30
In February 2009, Brian Payne achieved the landmark of guiding his 100th group of children around Warning Zone. Brian is one of the centre's original volunteers who had to learn the ropes before many of the scenarios were built and certainly didn't have the luxury of being able to shadow an experienced guide!
Having served for 31 years as a fire-fighter in Leicestershire, he then worked for British Rail for 4 years as a Fire Safety advisor until moving to the Leicester Mercury as the classified ad photographer where he stayed for 10 years.
On retiring he wanted to keep himself busy and on hearing about Warning Zone through Fire Service contacts, he applied to become a volunteer in May 2006, 5 months before the centre actually opened.
Brian was presented with a certificate and a bottle of wine by Crimebeat Chairman, Barry Jackson.
