Parachute Jump 03/03/2010
2010-02-22
It's raining cops!
Leicestershire Constabulary police officers will fall from the skies in a bid to raise funds for Warning Zone, a unique centre helping youngsters to stay safe and out of trouble.
On Wednesday 3rd March, Temporary Chief Constable Chris Eyre and Chief Inspector Donna Thomson will be joined by Chief Executive of Warning Zone, Sharon Binfield-Hill as they all take a leap of faith; hope and charity in a sponsored freefall parachute jump.
They have Faith in people to sponsor them; Hope that the weather will be favourable to allow the skydive and Charity to help Warning Zone continue its work with 10 to 11-year-old school children to develop personal responsibility for their actions.
Run by the High Sheriff's charity Leicestershire and Rutland Crimebeat, the interactive education centre, has been based in Syston since 2006 but due to the expiry of the lease on its building the charity has had to move and just completed the purchase of premises at Frog Island, Leicester.
The trustees of Leicestershire & Rutland Crimebeat have taken the bold step of purchasing these former workshop buildings but before they can move in there remains considerable expensive renovation work to be completed before it can re-open.
Alan Godber, the Centre co-ordinator said: We are a charity and do not receive any central government funding. We therefore rely on the generosity of local individuals, trusts and business for sponsorship and donations. We are always interested in talking to anyone who can offer specialist assistance, specific sponsorship or employee involvement as volunteers.
Chief Executive, Sharon Binfield-Hill said: "For the past three years we have offered a unique educational environment at Warning Zone for children to learn about staying safe and developing good citizenship.
We need extensive refurbishment work on the new building so that we can continue to develop safety related programmes for schoolchildren and other vulnerable groups on understanding the dangers of peer pressure, the consequences of anti-social behaviour.
It's my first time doing a freefall drop so I'm a bit nervous but really glad to do my bit. So please sponsor us as it's for such a great cause"
Temporary Chief Constable Chris Eyre, who will be skydiving from 14,000 ft over Langar airfield said: "The High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Mr Maurice Thompson asked me if I would be interested in a fund-raising skydive, I thought, why not? Warning Zone is a good centre and run by good people who do good work. They deserve our help."
And you can help too! We will do the scary stuff if you do the easy bit and sponsor us.I've already done a parachute jump before so this will be a slightly different experience. This time, we will freefall for about two minutes before we deploy the parachute.
