WARNING ZONE LAUNCHES NEW SCHOOLS' RESOURCE

29/01/2009

Warning Zone, the Syston based children's safety education centre, has launched its new workbook for use in the classroom. The book has been written specifically for children who have visited the centre and provides teachers with a ready made resource for follow-up work. The book is in colour and is accompanied by a teacher's pack and dvd.

In the past, a commercially available safety workbook has been provided to schools by Warning Zone but the new book now gives teachers the means to reinforce the exact learning points experienced by the children during their visit as part of the PSHE/Citizenship (Personal, Social & Health Education) curriculum.

The new book has been written "in-house" and was funded by a grant from Leicestershire company Next plc. Each school that visits Warning Zone is given sufficient copies to enable each child to have their own and the content not only links to their experience at the centre but also to a new website which has been launched at the same time (www.warningzone.org.uk).

Teacher Joyce Carter from Inglehurst Junior School in the city said,

"We have been to Warning Zone before and whilst the old workbook has been useful, the new one is a big improvement. It is much easier to use and more attractive to the pupils."

Warning Zone is operated by local charity Leicestershire & Rutland Crimebeat. Sharon Binfield-Hill, its Chief Executive said,

"We are very grateful to Next for their help in producing this new workbook. The use of colour and images they can recognise from their visit means that the children learn the safety and citizenship messages far more readily."
