WARNING ZONE MOVES INTO THE CITY
Warning Zone is on the move to new premises close to Leicester city centre. The interactive safety education centre, run by High Sheriffs' charity Leicestershire and Rutland Crimebeat, has been based in Syston since 2006 but due to the expiry of the lease on its building the search has been on for alternative accommodation. Now, the charity has just completed the purchase of premises at Frog Island, formerly owned by motor engineers A. B. Butt.
Chief Executive, Sharon Binfield-Hill said,
"This is really exciting news. For the past three years we have offered a unique opportunity for local schools to give their pupils a memorable educational experience based upon staying safe and good citizenship. Owning a building means that we can now continue to do this and also look to develop the centre for use by other groups."
Since opening, 15,000 local 10 and 11 year olds have visited Warning Zone and in April last year it was awarded a Quality Badge from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. Since closing to visitors in July, the charity has been delivering classroom based sessions in schools across Leicestershire and Rutland. Now, once extensive refurbishment work is complete, the new Warning Zone will again be helping youngsters understand about risk, staying safe, peer pressure and the consequences of offending.
In the spring Warning Zone will be looking for new volunteers to act as guides but if anyone is interested in registering an interest now they should call 0116 260 4181 or e-mail volunteering@warningzone.org.uk
