  • Warning Zone stalwart’s century

    2010-01-04

One of Warning Zone's original volunteers has clocked up her 100th session helping youngsters to stay safe and out of trouble.

Former Head Teacher and Local Authority Education Advisor Liz Paxton of Rothley was one of the first people to volunteer at the safety education centre based in Syston in 2006. Since that time, Liz has guided around six hundred 10 and 11 year olds through Warning Zone's interactive scenarios which deal with safety issues, peer pressure and the consequences of crime.

In 2008, Liz helped write and edit Warning Zone's new workbook and teacher's notes that enable schools to follow up their visit to the centre with classroom work.

    Liz said,

"Warning Zone is a great place to volunteer. We are all well trained and supported and volunteers enjoy the sessions as much as the youngsters they work with."

Warning Zone is now relocating premises and Liz and her fellow volunteers are currently busy touring the area with an "On the Road" classroom session which deals with the same issues of safety and responsibility.

Liz was presented with a small gift, certificate and letter of thanks by Leicestershire and Rutland Crimebeat Chairman, Barry Jackson.
