  • YOUNG ARTISTS FUNDRAISE FOR WARNING ZONE

    2010-07-20

A poster design competition has not only brought success to young local artists but has also raised funds to help safety education centre Warning Zone, move to their new premises.

High Sheriffs' charity Leicestershire & Rutland Crimebeat, who runs Warning Zone, opened the competition to 11 year old pupils in local schools which then pledged to stage fundraising non-uniform days when students wore red, green or black, Warning Zone's house colours.

Designs were required to be on a safety theme, reflecting the programme of classroom based activities operated by Warning Zone since having to close their Syston centre last year. The High Sheriffs of Leicestershire and Rutland, Colonel Robert Martin and Mrs Sarah Forsyth took part in the judging and over £1000 was donated to Warning Zone through those schools taking part.

Three separate competitions were held for City, Leicestershire and Rutland schools with the first prize winners receiving a £50 voucher of their choice.

    The winners were:

Emmanuel Andrade Sueiro of St. Thomas More R.C. School in Knighton
Eva Dickenson of Old Mill Primary School, Broughton Astley
Amy Hall of St. Mary & St. John CE Primary School, North Luffenham

Crimebeat Chief Executive Sharon Binfield-Hill said,

"Judging was extremely difficult. The three winners produced designs that were eye-catching, direct in message and easily reproduced as larger posters which will be used at the new Warning Zone on Frog Island. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and made donations towards the new centre."
